What writing job opportunities are there?

So you want to be a writer? What writing job opportunities are there for you, well if you are asking yourself this question then you have come to write place. There are a couple of different things that you can do as a writer. For example, there is always ghost writing and you would probably benefit from putting a profile up n a site like Upwork.com to get started with that. Or you can always freelance write for magazine, newspapers and other publishers. You can always write press releasees and then have them publish to different journals, this is always a great way of doing affiliate marking.  Lastly if you have a book idea, and it does not have to a fiction book, you could always do self publishing.

Ghost Writing

Ghost writing is where you would write a book for someone else. Lots of prolific writers use ghost writers. Such as John Sandford and James Patterson. The reason that most authors do this is that they have a lot of different books that they want to get out. When asked about what James Patterson's niche in the literary market was, I was told anything that makes money. He puts out a lot of books in a variety of different niches. I think the only books he actually writes himself are the Alex Cross books.

But how would you become a ghost writer? Well, you could email James Patterson and see how that works out. But another way is use Upwork to find writing jobs. I know of a Scotsman who lives in Thailand, who made his money through self-publishing a werewolf romance series that he never wrote a word of. All of the writing was done by a woman in the Philippines that he found on Upwork. Basically, they would give you certain guidelines like an outline or synopsis then you would write the book.

Freelance Writing

You can write for different publishers on a variety of different topics from travel, lifestyle, health and fitness, and other topics. Pick one that you are interested in, write some articles and pitch them to different publishers. Make sure to follow their guidelines when submitting so you don't waste your time. Most do not support the us of AI writers so you will have to do the work yourself. But something like spelling and grammar checks should be ok.

Also, you can write press releases about different topics and submit them to sites like Ruetgers or Forbes. Again, follow their submission guidelines, don't use an AI and make sure that your facts are correct before submitting.

Self-Publishing

Self-Publishing used to be looked down upon by some writers, i.e. Stephen King, but the fact of hte matter is that if you want to write books, even fiction books, at the moment self-publishing is the better way to go than traditional publishing. Most traditional publishers may give you a cash advanced, which sounds great, but that money is supposed to go towards promoting your book. Royalities from your book would only be like 10% maybe, whereas you don't get money from Amazon to promote your book you do have a lot of tools on the platform to help you promote it. Also, you can use Draft2digitial.com and put your book in every online bookstore that there is. Amazon can give up to 70% in royalties, and D2D gives up to 60% in royalties. That means that if you sell a book for 10 dollars a traditional publisher will give 1, Amazon will give you 7, and D2D will give you 6, you do the math.

But marking is hard, you might hear some people say. Not really actually. The beauty of books is that people are always buy them. You really just have to get your book out in front of the right people. How do you do this. There are book promotion sites, as well as book review blogs, post or get your books posted on those. Also, you can use social media like Pinterest, Facebook, twitter, and others to promote your book. If you were to write or get someone to write a werewolf romance series for you, Pinterest would be a great place to market that.

In conclusion those are a few of the ways that you make money as a writer or freelance writer. If you can think of any others or might know of some great opportunities, then please them down in the comments below.
